Choose a photo with a clear subject
Automatic background removal estimates which pixels belong to the subject. Results are usually easier when the person is well lit, separated from the background and not heavily blurred. Similar colors between clothing and background can make the boundary harder to detect.
Understand the model’s limits
Cliperfly’s browser-based option uses MODNet, a portrait-matting model. It is most appropriate for people and portrait-like subjects. Do not assume it will perform equally well on product photos, pets, transparent objects or complex scenes. Inspect hair, fingers, glasses and other fine edges carefully.
Transparent or solid background?
A transparent PNG is useful when placing a cutout over a design or a different scene. A solid background is convenient for profile pictures and product-style compositions, but it permanently merges the color with the image. Keep a transparent original if you may want to change the background later.
Privacy and performance
Browser-based processing can keep the image on your device, but the model itself must be downloaded on first use. Large models can take time and memory, especially on mobile devices. If processing fails, try a smaller image, close other demanding tabs, and use an up-to-date browser.
Common questions
Is every background removed perfectly?
No. Automatic masks can miss fine details or remove parts of the subject. Review the result before using it professionally.
Why is the first run slower?
The browser needs to download model files and initialize the inference runtime. Later sessions may benefit from browser caching.
Does transparency work in JPG?
No. JPEG does not support transparency. Use PNG for a transparent cutout.
