Photo Collage Maker: Layouts, Spacing and Export

Learn how to combine multiple photos into a clean collage, choose a grid and canvas ratio, manage spacing, and export an image that looks good on social media or in print.

Plan the collage before editing

Start by deciding what the collage needs to communicate. A travel recap may work best with a balanced grid, while a product comparison benefits from similar framing and consistent cell sizes. Choose photos with a related subject, color palette or story so the final image feels intentional.

Choose a canvas ratio

  • Square (1:1): a flexible choice for social sharing and profile posts.
  • Portrait (4:5): gives each photo more vertical room on a feed.
  • Landscape (3:2): works well for albums, simple print layouts and horizontal sharing.
  • Wide (16:9): useful for presentations, banners and wide screens.

Spacing, corners and crop behavior

Use a narrow gap for a connected, editorial feel and wider spacing when each photo should stand apart. Rounded corners make a collage feel softer, while square corners often suit print or product layouts. “Fill” crops each photo to fill its cell; “Fit” keeps the entire photo visible but may leave background space.

Export tips

PNG preserves crisp edges but can be large. JPEG is a familiar choice for photographs. WebP often provides a smaller file at similar visual quality, but confirm the destination supports it. Inspect the exported dimensions and open the file once before publishing or printing.

Common questions

How many photos should I include?

Use enough images to tell the story, but avoid making every cell too small to understand. A 2- to 4-column grid is a practical starting point.

Why do faces get cropped?

Cover mode fills each cell by trimming edges. Choose Fit or use photos with more space around faces and other important details.

Can I use the collage for printing?

Yes, but confirm the pixel dimensions and print size. A screen-sized export may not be enough for a large print.
