Lossy formats may reduce quality; PNG is lossless.

Compression results depend on image content, format, and browser encoder. Keep your original until you have checked the downloaded result.

What does an image compressor do?

An image compressor reduces the number of bytes needed to store an image. This browser-based tool re-encodes a selected image in WebP, JPEG, or PNG format. It does not upload your image to a Cliperfly server.

How to use it

  1. Select a JPEG, PNG, or WebP image.
  2. Choose the output format. WebP and JPEG are often smaller for photographs; PNG is useful for sharp graphics and transparency.
  3. Adjust quality and compare the estimated output size.
  4. Download and inspect the result at its intended display size.

Quality and file size

For lossy formats such as JPEG and WebP, lower quality settings usually reduce file size but may introduce visible artifacts. A quality setting is not a universal percentage of visual quality. Results depend on the source image and browser encoder.

Frequently asked questions

Will compression always make a file smaller?

No. Re-encoding an already optimized image can produce a larger file, especially at high quality. The tool reports the actual result so you can decide whether to use it.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The image is read and processed locally in your browser. Avoid closing the tab before downloading your result.

Which format should I choose?

WebP is a good general web option, JPEG is widely compatible for photos, and PNG is useful when lossless detail or transparency matters.
